Trish's latest PM article
has been published in the February 2010 edition of 'The Chemical Engineer'
magazine (TCE). 'Asking the Right Questions, Using the Right Tools' explains
why engineers and scientists need good project management tools.
Traditionally, a project was a mechanism that an organisation used to
deliver a benefit, but increasingly organisations are moving towards
managing by project, making Project Management more of a critical competency
than an additional skill or particular career choice.

MIME Hosts First Technical Webinar for IChemE
MIME Solutions was
delighted to be selected as host of the first IChemE technical webinar. Held
in December 2009, the topic for the two hour on-line session was 'The Basic
Project Management Toolkit'. Approximately 20 delegates attended from as far
afield as China, Singapore and Germany, representing global industry and
business ranging from Pharmaceuticals, Chemicals, Energy and Consulting.
The session involved
participants accessing a virtual 'whiteboard' on their PC screens, which
presented the topics in the same way
as a print out or OHP. An
exciting interactive element is then added, allowing the presenter to
express his or her thoughts on each 'slide' by means of a real time marker,
and delegate participation through the use of polls and emoticons. Delegates
also enjoyed the facility of a private 1:1 communication option with the
presenter.
The presenters were
pleased with the response to this extremely value-add training method.
Participants commented on how surprised they were at the level of
interaction and delegate involvement, as many had not expected the session
to be a 'two way street'! We look forward to supporting IChemE in developing
its on-line capability further in the coming year, and would like to say
